Chapter 68

Author pov.....

Ever since Bhavya had left, Ishani had been watching Rahul closely.

Something about him felt different.

He no longer smiled as easily, no longer spoke with the same warmth.

There was a quiet sadness in him that she couldn't ignore.

Seeing him like this bothered her more than she wanted to admit.

A strange feeling of jealousy slowly crept into her heart. A thought she had been trying to avoid finally took root in her mind.

Had Rahul started falling in love with Bhavya?

The very idea terrified her.

And if he had... then what if he had stopped loving her?

The thought haunted her until late into the night. Holding Ishaan tightly in her arms, she eventually drifted off to sleep, her heart heavy with unanswered questions.

The next morning, she woke up early, freshened up, and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

A little while later, Rahul walked in

wearing his police uniform. The sight of him instantly caught her attention.

He smiled softly."Good morning," he said.

"Good morning," Ishani replied.

"Can I help with anything?" Rahul asked.

"No, you sit down. I'll bring

breakfast," she said gently.

Rahul nodded. "Is Ishaan still sleeping?"

Ishani said "haa"

A few minutes later, Ishani brought the breakfast and placed it on the

table.

"I'll go get Ishaan," she said.

Rahul glanced at the food and shook his head. "Okay, I'll wait. The three of us will have breakfast together."

"You can start eating," Ishani insisted.

"No," Rahul replied firmly but warmly. "Go bring Ishaan first. Then we'll eat together."

A faint smile appeared on Ishani's face."Okay."

She turned and walked toward Ishaan's room to wake him up.

Just then, the front door opened.

Deepak stepped inside Rahul's house and looked at him."How are you?" he asked.

Rahul looked at Deepak and gave a small nod.

"I'm fine. Why are you asking like that?" he said.

Deepak forced a smile and shrugged.

"It's nothing."

He pulled out a chair and sat down across from Rahul.

Rahul raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you going to the police station today?"

"I will," Deepak replied casually. "Just a little late."

Rahul nodded and returned his attention to the table.

For a few moments, silence filled the room.

Deepak seemed unusually quiet, as if he was carefully choosing his words.

Finally, he cleared his throat.

"I was thinking..." he began. "Maybe Deeksha and I should go to Goa for our honeymoon."

Rahul listened and a genuine smile appeared on his face.

"That's a great idea," he said. "Go. Enjoy yourselves."

Deepak smiled but quickly continued.

"Yeah, but... what if you and Ishani bhabhi come with us too?"

The moment those words left his mouth, Rahul stared at him as if he had completely lost his mind.

"Are you crazy?" Rahul exclaimed.

"Don't even say something like that in front of Ishani."

His tone was firm, but there was a hint of embarrassment hidden behind it.

"Look, Rahul," Deepak began, his voice laced with a gentle insistence. "The way you and Ishani bhabhi got married it's exactly how it happened for us. Just like we're heading out, you two should go on a honeymoon, too. It's the perfect chance to understand each other better."

Rahul stiffened, his gaze fixed on the floor. "No, Deepak. Ishani might misunderstand my intentions. I don't want to give her any reason to be uncomfortable."

Deepak chuckled, waving a hand

dismissively. "What trouble could there possibly be? Look, if you're finding it hard to bring it up, just let me ask her for you."

"No!" Rahul snapped, his voice tight with a sudden alarm. "Don't you dare ask her anything."

"Oh, come on, don't be like that," Deepak persisted, stepping forward.

"Just let me clear the air-"

"I said, don't ask Ishani!" Rahul's voice rose, desperate and firm.

Just then, the soft click of the heels silenced them.

Ishani walked into the room, with Ishaan her eyebrows arched in curiosity. She looked from a flustered Rahul to a grinning Deepak, her expression guarded yet calm.

"Ask me what?" she asked, her voice quiet but piercing. "What is it that you shouldn't be asking me?"

"Nothing, Ishani," Rahul quickly interjected, his voice strained. "He's just being crazy, talking nonsense. Don't listen to him."

Deepak, unfazed by Rahul's tension, turned to Ishani with a warm, earnest smile. "Actually, Bhabhi, Deeksha and I really want you and Rahul to join us. We're planning a trip to Goa for our honeymoon, and it would be wonderful if you both came along."

Ishani looked from Deepak to Rahul, her expression unreadable.

Rahul glared at Deepak, his jaw tight. "Are you out of your mind, Deepak? What would we do on your honeymoon? You and Deeksha go Ishani and I are not coming."

Deepak ignored Rahul's protest entirely, keeping his gaze fixed on Ishani. "Bhabhi, please say yes. Deeksha would be so happy to have you there."

A brief silence hung in the room before Ishani spoke, her voice calm

and steady. "Okay. I'll come."

Rahul stared at her, his eyes wide with shock. He couldn't believe his ears. "Ishani, please... don't feel pressured. He's just being silly. We don't need to go anywhere."

Ishani turned to him, her eyes soft but resolute. "No, Rahul, I actually want to go. It would be nice to get away for a while, and since Ishaan is off from school right now, it's the perfect time. Unless, of course, you have a problem with it? If you do, we won't go."

Rahul hesitated, his heart racing. "No... why would I have a problem? I'm fine with it."

"Good," Ishani said with a nod. She turned back to Deepak. "Go tell Deeksha, we're in."

Deepak beamed, his face lighting up with genuine excitement. "Thank you so much, Bhabhi!"

As Deepak walked away, whistling with joy, Ishani offered a small, knowing smile.

Rahul stood there, unable to suppress the warmth spreading in his chest. A quiet joy took root in his heart knowing that Ishani wanted to come with him, that she wanted to put effort into their relationship.

He spent the rest of the day in a haze of uncharacteristic happiness, his mind replaying the moment over and over.

..................................

Two days later, Ishani and Deeksha were out shopping for the trip.

Deeksha was in her element, picking out outfits, when she turned to Ishani with a pleading look. "Didi, please, you have to buy some western outfits for Goa. No suits or sarees, okay? Promise me?"

Ishani laughed, shaking her head. "Okay, okay, calm down. Whatever you say."

Deeksha beamed and immediately started helping Ishani pick out trendy clothes. Just as they were finishing up, Ishani's phone buzzed. It was a call from Divya.

"Did you buy what I told you to?" Divya asked, skipping the pleasantries.

"Yes, I did," Ishani replied, moving

slightly away from Deeksha to talk.

"Show me," Divya demanded.

"I've already bought them, Divya. Why are you so worried?" Ishani said

Divya went quiet for a second before snapping, "You didn't buy them, did you?"

Ishani let out a sigh. "You're crazy. How am I supposed to wear a nightie or those types of clothes in front of Rahul? I just can't do it."

Divya's tone sharpened with annoyance. "Then why on earth did you agree to go to Goa with him?"

Ishani paused, looking at her reflection in the mirror. "I just wanted to take his mind off things. He was so stressed because of Bhavya. I thought if we went away for a while, he might be able to forget everything and relax."

Divya gave her a knowing look, her eyes narrowing. "Oh, so now you're worrying about Rahul? Starting to find him attractive, are we?"

Ishani quickly averted her gaze, focusing on a stack of clothes to hide the sudden flush on her face. "It's nothing like that," she said, her voice a bit too defensive. "I've always liked Rahul as a person what's wrong with that? I just wanted to help him because he was stressed, that's all."

Divya sensed the hesitation in Ishani's voice and smirked, knowing exactly what was going on beneath the surface. She had already figured out that Ishani was starting to fall for Rahul.

"Okay, fine, have it your way," Divya said, her tone softening but still insistent. "But you still have to buy something stylish, something a little... sexy. You know, you need to look your best. Don't go around looking like a 'behenji' all the time. Look at me ever since I got pregnant, I have no idea how I look. I keep wondering if Vaibhav will even find me attractive anymore after the baby comes."

Ishani felt a pang of sympathy for her sister. "You're being ridiculous, Divya," she replied, her voice firm and reassuring. "Bhaiya loves you unconditionally. It doesn't matter what you look like true love doesn't care about the clothes you wear or your appearance it sees the person you are."

Divya made a face, rolling her eyes playfully. "Okay, okay, Mata Rani, enough with the lectures! Just get back to your shopping already."

Ishani chuckled, a small smile playing on her lips, and hung up the phone. She shook her head, turning back to the racks of clothes.

Ishani carefully picked out a few western outfits, but she made sure they were modest.

The idea of wearing anything too revealing made her feel uneasy.

While she was at it, she didn't forget Ishaan she picked out some smart clothes for him, and even bought a few things for Rahul.

On the other hand, Deeksha was clearly in a different mood, picking out vibrant, stylish, and revealing clothes for herself, Deepak, and Mannat.

Once they finished, they cleared the

bill and headed home. As they walked into the living room, a scene of domestic bliss greeted them. Rahul, Deepak, Mannat, and little Ishaan were hunched over a board, completely engrossed in a game of Ludo.

Ishani stood by the door, a warm, contented smile spreading across her face. It was such a relief to see Ishaan so comfortable and happy with everyone.

Deepak looked up and saw them. "Finally! You guys are back," he exclaimed, his face lighting up.

Mannat immediately jumped up from the floor, running toward them. "Mumma! Did you buy something for me? Show me, show me!"

Deeksha laughed and started showing off the bags filled with clothes. Mannat and Deepak were thrilled, their faces beaming as they checked out the new outfits.

Rahul sat quietly on the side, watching the three of them with a soft, gentle smile lingering on his lips.

Ishani stepped forward, her gaze shifting to her son. "Let's head home now, Ishaan. You must be exhausted from all the playing, right?"

Ishaan nodded sleepily but gave a sweet wave to Mannat. "Bye, Mannat didi!" he chirped.

Ishani held Ishaan's hand and started walking toward the door, with Rahul following quietly right behind them, his eyes fixed on the mother and son.

Once Ishaan was tucked into bed, the house grew quiet. Rahul was sitting in the living room, lost in his own thoughts, when Ishani walked up to him.

She pulled out a neatly folded set of clothes from her shopping bag and handed them to him.

Rahul looked at the clothes, then back at her, looking slightly surprised.

"I noticed you didn't really have any casual, formal-wear for a place like Goa," Ishani said softly, avoiding his intense gaze. "So, I picked these out for you."

Rahul hesitated, his voice low. "I could have bought them myself, Ishani. You didn't need to do this."

Ishani's expression firmed, though her tone remained gentle. "Why wouldn't I? Please, just keep them. You do so much for me and Ishaan this is the least I could do for you."

A genuine, soft smile broke across Rahul's face. He reached out and took the clothes from her hands. "Thank you," he murmured.

Ishani shook her head, a playful, soft light in her eyes. "Please, don't say 'thank you' for every little thing. We're husband and wife, Rahul. Doing these things for each other is perfectly normal."

Rahul went still, clearly caught off guard by her words. He looked at her as if he were seeing a new side of her, and his face lit up with a beam of pure happiness.

Ishani turned away and walked off, leaving him in the quiet room.

Once she was gone, Rahul pulled the clothes close, hugging them to his chest.

He closed his eyes, content smile spreading across his face, his heart feeling lighter than it had in a very long time.

....................................

The next day, the air was buzzing with excitement as everyone got ready to leave for the airport.

Ishani, ever the thoughtful one, had spent the morning preparing a delicious breakfast for everyone, packing it carefully for the journey.

By the time they reached the airport, the atmosphere was electric. Little Mannat was already in full vacation mode, looking absolutely adorable in a bright, stylish frock and trendy sunglasses.

Ishaan looked like a mini-gentleman, rocking a smart shirt, half-pants, and a cool pair of black shades.

Ishani looked graceful and comfortable in a fusion-style western kurti.

Rahul, trying his best to keep up with the vacation vibe, looked sharp and handsome in the formal attire Ishani had bought for him.

Deepak was dressed in smart casuals, effortlessly handsome in a way that drew attention without him even trying. The crisp shirt, perfectly fitted jeans, and relaxed confidence in his posture made him stand out among everyone around him.

Alongside them, Deeksha looked stunning in a chic short dress, perfectly ready for the Goa sun.

As they walked toward the departure gate, they looked like a happy, picture-perfect family.

Rahul glanced at Ishani, who was busy making sure Ishaan had his bag, and a sense of calm settled over him he knew this trip was going to be the beginning of something new.

Once they boarded the flight, everyone began settling into their seats. Mannat, full of energy, took her place right in the middle of Deepak and Deeksha.

Ishaan, however, was clearly nervous about the flight; he clung tightly to Ishani, burying his face in her lap. Rahul took his seat right next to them.

As the plane began to pick up speed for takeoff, Ishaan panicked, clutching his mother so hard his knuckles turned white.

Watching his distress, Rahul reached out and began to gently stroke Ishaan's back, whispering soft words to calm him down. Ishani looked over at Rahul, a warm, reassuring smile touching her lips as she watched him comfort her son.

The engines roared and the plane lifted off the ground. Ishaan trembled, burying himself even deeper into Ishani's arms.

She held him close, cradling his head against her chest, offering him all the comfort she could.

"It's alright, Ishaan," she whispered, her voice soothing. "Don't be afraid, I'm right here with you."

Once the plane leveled off and the seatbelt sign flickered off, the worst of the turbulence and Ishaan's fear began to subside. His grip on her dress loosened just a little, though he still didn't let go, choosing to stay curled up against her.

Ishani kept her arms wrapped securely around him, a silent promise that she wouldn't let him go until he felt completely safe.

Time seemed to stand still in the cabin, and soon, exhaustion took over. Ishani and Ishaan eventually drifted off to sleep, curled up together.

Rahul, who had been trying to distract himself with a magazine, noticed Ishani's head begin to tilt, finally coming to rest against his hand.

He watched her for a long moment, his expression softening. Carefully, he shifted his position, adjusting his arm to ensure she could rest more comfortably against him.

In her sleep, Ishani shifted slightly, her hand instinctively finding his and interlocking their fingers. With her other arm, she remained protectively wrapped around Ishaan.

The moment their skin touched, Rahul's heart began to hammer against his ribs. The air around him suddenly felt heavy and intimate.

Unable to resist, he leaned in closer, his face inches from hers. He could feel the warmth of her breath, and as he closed his eyes, he let his nose brush against hers, inhaling the gentle scent of her.

A profound sense of calm washed over him a peace he hadn't felt in years.

Without realizing it, his own eyelids grew heavy. Surrounded by the steady hum of the plane and the presence of the two people who mattered most, Rahul fell into a deep, peaceful sleep, his hand still firmly holding hers.

Mannat, who had been restless, turned around in her seat to check on Ishaan, only to find him fast asleep.

Her eyes widened, and she tugged at Deeksha's sleeve, whispering. "Mumma, Papa, look! Ishani Aunty, Rahul Uncle, and Ishaan all three of them are sleeping together!"

Deeksha and Deepak turned around to look. The sight was heartwarming Ishani and Ishaan were curled up against Rahul, who had his arm protectively around them even in his sleep.

The couple shared a look of pure, shocked delight, a soft smile spreading across both their faces.

Deepak couldn't resist. He slowly pulled out his phone, framing the perfect shot, and clicked a picture of the three of them.

Deeksha nudged him, her eyes widening. "Deepak, stop! That's a private moment. It's not right to take pictures like that."

Deepak chuckled, tucking his phone away with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Relax, Deeksha. I'm not posting it anywhere. I just want to show this to Rahul when he wakes up and tease him about it."

Deeksha shook her head, unable to hide her amusement. "Deepak. Seriously, you're so bad!"

Deepak just laughed softly, his gaze lingering on the trio for a moment longer, feeling happy that the walls between Rahul and Ishani were finally starting to crumble.

The chime of the plane signaling their arrival in Goa echoed through the cabin. The sudden noise stirred Rahul and Ishani from their deep slumber.

As they blinked away the sleep, reality rushed back to them they realized they were holding hands, their fingers tightly interlaced.

They both pulled away as if scorched, sitting up abruptly.

Their faces flushed with embarrassment, neither daring to meet the other's eyes.

Rahul panicked, his heart racing for an entirely different reason now."She's going to think I'm taking advantage of the situation."

Ishani, meanwhile, was equally flustered, her thoughts racing. "I was holding his hand? How did I even fall asleep like that? What must he be thinking of me?"

Trying to regain some composure, Ishani quickly turned her attention to Ishaan, who was rubbing his eyes, still drowsy. "Come on, Ishaan, wake up. We've reached," she said, her voice a little higher than usual.

Ishaan groaned softly and instinctively wrapped his arms around her neck.

Ishani stood up, lifting him into her arms to carry him. She walked toward the exit, needing to put some distance between herself and the confusing spark she had felt when she woke up.

Rahul followed a few steps behind, feeling awkward and unable to find the right words to break the heavy silence between them.

The group collected their luggage and stepped out into the humid, welcoming air of Goa.

They split into two cabs: Ishani, Ishaan, and Rahul in the first, while Deepak, Deeksha, and Mannat followed in the second.

When they arrived at the hotel, the receptionist handed them the keys to their rooms.

Ishani, carrying a sleepy Ishaan, headed straight toward the elevators. Rahul, however, paused at the front desk.

"Excuse me," Rahul said to the receptionist, his voice low. "Is it possible for me to get a separate room?"

The receptionist was just about to check for availability when Deepak stepped in, his brow furrowed. "A separate room? Why on earth would you need that?"

Rahul looked uncomfortable, avoiding his gaze. "Ishani and Ishaan will be in one room. How can I possibly stay with them? Back home, I've always stayed in a separate room."

Deeksha, who had been listening from a few feet away, marched over, looking at him as if he had lost his mind. "You stayed in a separate room? Rahul, are you serious?"

Rahul nodded slowly.

Deeksha sighed, shaking her head. "You are truly a fool. You're married, Rahul! You're supposed to share a room. That is exactly how you'll grow closer to each other."

Deepak clapping a hand on Rahul's shoulder. "Yeah, you're officially crazy. It looks like we're going to have to teach you how to be a husband. No separate room for you to go straight to the room Ishani is in. That's final."

Rahul felt completely cornered. Faced with their firm stance, he couldn't find a single argument to defend himself. He sighed, took the key card, and quietly headed toward Ishani's room.

As he walked away, Deeksha turned to Deepak, whispering, "We have a lot of work to do to bring these two together, don't we?"

Deepak chuckled. "Tell me about it. Let's hope he doesn't mess this up."

With that, they grabbed their own bags and headed to their room with a giggling Mannat in tow.

Ishani was standing by the door, still holding Ishaan, watching Rahul as he approached.

"I'm sorry," Rahul murmured, his voice laced with hesitation. He unlocked the door and held it open for them.

The three of them stepped inside. The room was spacious and elegantly lit, but the silence between Rahul and Ishani felt heavy.

Ishani moved toward the bed, gently laying a drowsy Ishaan down. She brushed a soft kiss onto his forehead, lingering for a second to ensure he was comfortable, before turning to her bags.

Rahul placed luggage down and nervously set his wallet and keys on the side table. He watched Ishani as she began to unpack, and the weight of the situation finally hit him.

"Ishani..." he started, his voice barely a whisper. "The receptionist... there wasn't another room available. I'm really sorry, I'll have to stay in this room with you."

Ishani paused, looking at him. For a moment, Rahul held his breath, fearing she might be upset. But Ishani simply gave him a small, understanding smile.

"It's alright, Rahul. It's perfectly fine," she said, her voice calm and soothing. "You can stay here. Please, don't overthink it."

Rahul felt a wave of relief wash over him, his face lighting up with a genuine, hidden joy.

"I'm going to freshen up," she added, turning back to gather her things.

Rahul just nodded, unable to find the words to express how much her simple acceptance meant to him.

He watched her walk toward the bathroom, a flicker of hope blooming in his chest that perhaps, in this beautiful place, things were finally starting to change.

Just as Rahul was settling in, his phone buzzed. It was Deepak.

"Hey, we're planning to head to the beach this evening," Deepak said, his voice brimming with excitement. "You guys in?"

"Yeah, okay," Rahul replied, glancing toward the bathroom. "Sounds good."

A moment later, Ishani stepped out, looking refreshed after a quick shower, dressed in a comfortable, breezy outfit.

Rahul turned to her, his gaze lingering on her for a fraction longer than intended. "Deepak called. He wants to know if we're up for a walk on the beach this evening."

Ishani nodded, feeling the sudden humidity of the room. "That sounds lovely. But I'm exhausted from the journey I think I'll take a short nap first. You should change into something more comfortable, too, Rahul."

"Okay," Rahul said, offering a small, appreciative nod.

Ishani didn't wait any longer. She moved to the bed and carefully pulled Ishaan close to her, wrapping her arms around him. The comfort of the soft mattress and the gentle rhythm of her son's breathing quickly lulled her into a deep sleep.

Rahul watched them for a moment, a quiet smile playing on his lips, before he quietly gathered his things to change, not wanting to disturb their peaceful rest.

Rahul walked out of the bathroom, feeling refreshed, but his mind was far from the vacation plans. He glanced around the room there was nothing specific for him to do. His gaze naturally drifted toward the bed, where Ishani lay fast asleep, curled up with Ishaan.

He pulled up a chair and sat down, his eyes softening as they rested on her face. In the quiet of the room, time seemed to slow down.

He found himself simply watching her the way her eyelashes rested against her cheeks, the gentle rise and fall of her breathing, and the serene expression she wore in her sleep.

A profound thought washed over him if he were given the choice to spend his entire life just sitting here, watching her like this, he would do it without a second's hesitation.

He didn't need grand gestures or endless adventures this simple, quiet closeness was everything he had ever wanted.

So, he stayed there, anchored to the spot. He didn't move, he didn't reach for his phone, and he didn't look away.

He just sat in the stillness, perfectly content to let his world revolve around the peaceful sight of them, savoring a moment he knew he would cherish forever.

As Ishani began to stir, her eyes fluttering open, Rahul's heart skipped a beat. A sudden wave of panic washed over him, as if he had been caught doing something forbidden.

He didn't wait to see if she was fully awake he bolted from his seat and hurried toward the door, his movements frantic and clumsy.

Once he was out in the quiet room, he leaned against the wall, taking sharp, ragged breaths.

He felt like a thief who had narrowly escaped detection. Needing to put distance between himself and the room, he practically ran out of the hotel and toward the beach just a short walk away, desperate for a blast of fresh air to calm his racing heart.

The noon breeze was harsh, but as he stepped onto the sand, he was met with a different kind of intensity.

Couples were everywhere mostly tourists engrossed in their own little worlds. A few paces away, he saw a foreign couple sharing an intimate kiss under the dim light of the beach lamps.

Rahul looked away instantly, his gaze darting toward the crashing waves instead. The sight made him feel strangely shy and awkward, his mind immediately flying back to the room, to Ishani, and the quiet, hidden feelings he wasn't quite ready to confront.

Rahul shook his head, scolding himself under his breath. "What are you thinking, Rahul? Stop it. You can't think of Ishani like that; she is pure, and she deserves respect."

He turned back to the ocean, staring out at the blue, rhythmic waves, but no matter how hard he tried to clear his head, Ishani's face was the only thing he could see.

Suddenly, a girl stumbled and fell

right toward him. Reacting instinctively, Rahul reached out and caught her, steadying her before she hit the sand. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice steady but cautious.

The girl looked up at him, her eyes bright. She gave him a slow, flirtatious smile. "Thank you so much for saving me. I could have really hurt myself."

"It's no problem at all," Rahul said, his tone strictly formal. He immediately stepped back, trying to create distance, but the girl didn't budge.

She stayed right where she was, looking him over. "Are you from around here?" she asked, her voice lingering in the air.

"No," Rahul replied shortly.

"Oh..." she started, still standing there, clearly looking for a way to keep the conversation going.

Rahul began to feel uncomfortable.

The whole situation felt forced and wrong. Without another word, he turned on his heel and started to walk away, his pace quickening. To his surprise, he heard footsteps behind him.

"Hey! Where are you going?" the girl called out, practically running to catch up to him.

Rahul stopped and whirled around, his eyes wide with shock and irritation.

He looked at her, his expression hardening. "What does it matter to you where I'm going? I can go wherever I want, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't follow me."

The girl blinked, momentarily taken aback, but then she let out a light, dismissive laugh. "Okay, okay, no need to be so rude! I just thought you were cute and wanted to strike up a conversation."

Rahul didn't soften. His gaze remained firm. "I'm married. Please, go find someone else."

The girl looked genuinely shocked for a second, then shook her head with an awkward smile. "Oh... I'm really sorry. I didn't realize. You can go, I'll leave you alone."

Without another word, Rahul turned and headed straight back to the hotel.

He felt a strange need to be near Ishani.

When he entered the room, he found Ishani already awake. She was sitting by the bed, patiently feeding Ishaan the meal she had prepared earlier that morning.

She looked up as Rahul stepped inside, her expression gentle.

"Oh, you're back," she said softly. "Are you hungry? I saved some food for you."

Rahul nodded, feeling a strange sense of relief just being back in the room with her. "Yes, thank you."

Ishani plated the food and handed it

to him. She watched quietly as he sat down, and for a while, the only sound in the room was the soft clinking of spoons.

They ate in a comfortable, domestic silence Rahul and Ishaan side-by-side, sharing a meal.

......................................

As evening approached, the sky turned a soft shade of orange, and the group headed down to the beach. The atmosphere was light and breezy.

Ishani, shedding her usual restraint, was knee-deep in the water, splashing around with Ishaan and Mannat.

Their laughter echoed over the sound of the crashing waves as they playfully pelted each other with seawater, getting Ishani completely drenched from head to toe.

Rahul stood at a distance on the dry sand, his hands tucked into his pockets, watching them with a faint, mesmerized smile.

He didn't join in, but his eyes never left Ishani.

Deepak and Deeksha hadn't joined them. They had stayed back at the hotel, citing Deeksha's sudden headache as an excuse. However, Ishani wasn't fooled she knew exactly what they were doing.

It was obvious they wanted some private time together. Being the understanding, Ishani had insisted on taking Mannat along with her to give the couple their space.

Ishani stepped out of the water, a mischievous plan brewing in her mind. She leaned down and whispered something into Mannat's ear.

Mannat's eyes lit up with excitement, and she giggled, nodding in agreement.

She grabbed Ishaan's hand, and the two children sprinted toward Rahul, who was still standing safely on the dry sand.

"Rahul Uncle, come on!" Mannat chirped, tugging at his hand. "Don't be a spoilsport. It's so much fun in the water, you have to come!"

Rahul shook his head, retreating a

step. "No, no, you guys go ahead. I'm happy right here."

But the kids were in no mood to take 'no' for an answer. Mannat grabbed his left hand, and Ishaan latched onto his right.

With all their combined strength, they began to drag him toward the tide.

Rahul tried to hold his ground, but he couldn't help but laugh as he stumbled forward, finally giving in to their playful insistence.

Once they reached the shallows, the children didn't waste a second.

Mannat splashed a handful of salty water right onto Rahul's face, and Ishaan quickly followed suit, both of them cheering loudly.

Ishani stood a few feet away, the golden light of the setting sun illuminating her face. She crossed her arms, watching the scene with a soft,

smile.

Seeing Rahul usually so reserved and serious letting his guard down and playing like a child filled her heart with a warmth that felt deeper than the evening sun.

The four of them walked back from the beach, drenched.

"We need to get into dry clothes," Ishani said as she shook droplets from her hair.

Mannat looked disappointed, her shoulders slumping. "But what about the boat ride? Are we not going anymore?"

Ishani gently tucked a strand of hair behind Mannat's ear. "Not tonight, sweetie. Let's go tomorrow when your Mumma and Papa are feeling better, okay?"

Mannat nodded slowly. "Okay."

They all headed to Rahul's room. Once inside, Ishani realized she didn't have Mannat's suitcase, so she pulled out a spare set of Ishaan's clothes.

Mannat looked at the shirt and frowned. "But Aunty, these are Ishaan's clothes!"

Ishani knelt down, her expression warm. "I know, but your Mumma and Papa aren't feeling well, and we don't want to disturb them for your bags right now. Just wear these for a bit. Look at how cute you look!"

Mannat turned to the mirror, smoothing down the oversized shirt, and a wide grin spread across her face. "Okay! It's actually not that bad," she giggled.

Ishani stood up, wiping her hands on her dress. "Great. You two stay here with Rahul Uncle. I'm going to quickly change into something dry. Once I'm back, we'll head out to a nice restaurant for dinner. Sounds like a plan?"

"Yes!" Mannat and Ishaan chirped in unison.

Just then, Rahul's phone buzzed. It was Deepak.

He stepped away to answer, his voice hushed. "Hello? Deepak, how is Deeksha doing? Is she feeling any better?"

Deepak's voice sounded muffled and slightly strained on the other end. "Yeah, yeah, she's doing better. Listen, Rahul, I need a favor. Can you keep Mannat with you for the whole night?"

Rahul paused, confused. "Tonight? But... why?"

Deepak let out a sharp, impatient breath. "Try to understand, man! Do I really have to spell it out for you?"

"What is there to understand? You're being really cryptic," Rahul replied, feeling more bewildered by the second.

Deeksha suddenly snatched the phone from Deepak. "Rahul, listen to me,"

She said, her voice firm and teasing. "We want to spend some quality time together just the two of us. You know, husband and wife... some private time. Do you get it now?"

Rahul went completely silent. A deep shade of crimson crept up his neck, and he suddenly felt incredibly awkward. He cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure.

"Okay," he managed to say, his voice barely a whisper.

Before he could process the embarrassment, Deeksha hung up. He stood there, staring at the phone, his face still burning as the implication of her words fully hit.

Ishani returned from the washroom, and shortly after, the four of them headed to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

The atmosphere was light and casual Mannat and Ishaan were happily digging into their bowls of noodles, while Rahul and Ishani shared a quiet, steady conversation.

Suddenly, the mood shifted violently.

A girl the same one Rahul had encountered on the beach walked up to their table. Before Rahul could even react, she grabbed his face and planted a bold kiss on his lips.

Ishani froze.

The spoon in her hand stopped mid-air, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief.

Mannat and Ishaan went silent, their small faces filled with confusion.

Rahul's reaction was instantaneous. Fueled by a surge of pure, protective rage, he stood up abruptly, knocking his chair back, and landed a sharp, stinging slap across the girl's cheek.

The sound echoed throughout the restaurant, drawing immediate attention from everyone around.

"What is this nonsense?" Rahul roared, his voice shaking with fury. "I told you clearly that I am a married man! How dare you behave like this?"

The girl stumbled back, clutching her face in shock, tears welling up in her eyes. Her group of friends, who had been watching from a nearby table, quickly rushed over.

"Are you crazy?" one of the guys shouted at Rahul. "It was just a kiss! We had a bet, and you slapped her over such a small thing!"

Rahul's eyes turned cold a look of pure authority that instantly silenced the group. He didn't waste a second.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out his official IPS badge, and held it up right before their faces.

"A small thing?" Rahul's voice was dangerously low, vibrating with command. "You think assault and disrespect are a joke? I could have you all arrested for this right now. Before you try to play games with someone, think about how they might feel. Do you have any idea who you're dealing with?"

The group of friends paled as they realized they were facing a senior police officer.

The bravado drained out of them instantly. "We we are so sorry, sir! It was just a joke, we didn't know...

please, forgive us!"

Rahul ignored their pathetic excuses, his chest heaving with lingering anger.

He didn't even glance at the girl again he turned his gaze toward Ishani, who was watching the scene with a mix of surprise and intense anger directed at the girl.

"Get out of here," Rahul commanded, his voice cold as ice. "And if I ever see you trying to pull something like this again, you won't be leaving this restaurant you'll be spending the night in a jail cell. Now, leave!"

Terrified, the group scrambled away, disappearing into the night. The restaurant returned to a tense silence, leaving Rahul standing there, his heart still hammering

Rahul's chest was still heaving with anger, but when he caught sight of Mannat and Ishaan, his expression softened instantly.

He saw the fear in their wide eyes and felt a pang of guilt. He pulled his chair back and sat down, forcing a gentle smile onto his face.

"I'm really sorry, kids," he said softly, his voice full of warmth. "I didn't mean to scare you both."

Mannat shook her head quickly. "No,

Uncle, it's okay."

Ishaan, however, remained quiet, looking down at his plate. Rahul reached out, gently touching his shoulder. "Ishaan, listen... I only reacted like that because what she did was wrong.

Ishani placed a hand on Ishaan's arm, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "It's okay, Ishaan. Rahul is right you don't need to be afraid. Everything is fine now."

A wave of relief washed over Rahul. He looked at Ishani, thankful for her support. "Okay, let's finish our dinner, then we'll head back to the room."

After a quiet meal, they returned to the hotel. Ishani spent the next little while tucking the children into bed, hummed a soft lullaby until they drifted off to sleep.

Rahul, feeling restless and overwhelmed by the evening's events, stepped out onto the balcony to clear his head.

He pulled out a cigarette, the smoke curling up into the night air.

Ishani finished with the kids and realized Rahul was missing. She searched the room, then stepped out into the hallway and finally found him on the balcony.

She froze, her eyes widening as she saw the cigarette in his hand. She walked toward him, her footsteps slow and deliberate.

Rahul heard her approach and turned around. Upon seeing her, he panicked, immediately flicking the cigarette away and stubbing it out against the railing, his face pale with guilt.

Ishani stood before him, her eyes burning with frustration. "What exactly were you doing out here, Rahul?"

"Nothing," he stammered, his confidence vanishing. "I... I was just standing here, that's all."

Ishani looked at him, her gaze disappointed. "Rahul, cigarettes, alcohol... you have all these bad habits. Don't you even have a single good habit?"

Rahul stood there, head hung low, unable to find the right words to defend himself. He looked so vulnerable, like a guilty child caught in a mistake.

Ishani watched him for a long moment, her expression softening. "Well? Are you going to say something, or just stand there?"

Rahul looked up, his eyes earnest. "It's not like that, Ishani. My mind was just... I was so overwhelmed, I don't know, I just grabbed a cigarette. I swear to you, I don't usually do this. Truly, I don't."

Ishani couldn't help but smile his desperate, childlike honesty was endearing despite the situation. But she quickly regained her composure, adopting a firm, serious tone. "Rahul, it's terrible for your health. Promise me you'll stop."

"Okay," he said immediately, his relief palpable. "I promise. I'll quit."

Ishani stepped closer, her eyes

narrowing as she studied his face. "You have lipstick on your lip," she noted, her voice dropping to a whisper.

Rahul panicked, his hands immediately flying to his face to scrub at the smudge. "Ishani, I swear, I didn't let her get close! I didn't want any of that. I have never thought of anyone but you ever. Please, you have to believe me."

"Is that so?" she teased softly.

She reached out and cupped his face with both hands.

Rahul went rigid with surprise, his breath hitching in his throat. With her thumb, she gently rubbed away the lingering trace of lipstick from his lower lip.

"I trust you, Rahul," she said, her voice steady and warm. "Stop stressing yourself out so much. It's okay."

Rahul looked at her, his heart hammering against his chest.

"How?" he asked, his voice barely audible. "After everything... you see why do you trust me so easily?"

Ishani didn't let go. She kept her hands cupped firmly around his face, her gaze searching the depths of his eyes with a profound, quiet wisdom.

"I trust you, Rahul," she whispered, her voice barely a breath against the night air. "I trust you because I've known you since we were children. I've seen the way you look at me... the way you have always loved me. You still do, don't you? And that part of you the part that belongs to me would never, could never look at another woman."

Rahul felt his breath hitch. His heart was hammering against his ribs, a frantic, thunderous rhythm that felt like it might betray him right there.

He looked at her really looked at her and felt the walls he'd spent years building around his soul begin to crumble.

The intensity of her belief in him was more overwhelming than any accusation could ever be it was a mirror reflecting a version of himself he was terrified to embrace, yet desperate to be.

Ishani finally withdrew her hands, the sudden absence of her touch leaving him feeling cold her expression softening into something infinitely gentle. "You don't need to fight the world to prove your loyalty to me, Rahul. You don't have to carry this weight alone."

She looked at him for one more heartbeat, then turned toward the door. "Come on. Let's get some sleep."

She reached out and took his hand, her fingers sliding between his with a natural, effortless grace. As she began to pull him gently back toward their room, Rahul looked down at their

joined hands.

His chest swelled with an ache so sweet it was almost painful. For years, he had lived in the shadows of his own desires and fears, but in this one, simple contact, he felt like a child who had suddenly been handed the vast, endless sky.

A wide, genuine smile broke across his face a look of pure, unadulterated wonder. He followed her, walking not just into the room, but into the first real moment of peace he had felt in a lifetime.
